Boningale Nurseries is very proud to have been involved with the following British Association of Landscaping Industries (BALI) award-winning landscaping projects in 2013.
New Library of Birmingham – Frosts Landscapes
BALI Judges were impressed with the quality of the planting and design at the new £188.8 million New Library of Birmingham, which was awarded the prize for Green Roof Installations and Roof Gardens. Boningale supplied Frosts Landscape Construction with 10,000 grown-to-order plants for the library’s breath taking roof terraces and gardens.
The Co-operative 1 Angel Square, Manchester – MITIE Landscapes
Boningale Nurseries worked with MITIE Landscapes to produce a stunning display of interior plant displays at the new The Co-operative headquarters in Manchester, which is said to be the most environmentally friendly building in the world.
The standard of work was such that the project was named a 2013 Principal BALI winner for Interior Landscape (installation only).
Appointed by maintenance contractor MITIE Landscapes, BALI member Boningale supplied a wide range of plants to reflect the surrounding Peak District flora in the themed winter garden areas on the roof terraces for the new Co-operative head office in Angel Square, Manchester.
Awarding the scheme the prize for Interior Landscape (installation only) award, judges said the plants were healthy and well maintained. “This is an impressive installation,” they added.
Walsall Arboretum – Lanarca
Boningale Nurseries worked with architects Lanarca to produce a stunning planting scheme for Walsall’s showcase Arboretum, which boasts a boating lake, bowling green, several acres of open playing field, a gold course and children’s playground.
The 73.5ha park is undergoing a major £7.6 million restoration, and we provided thousands of varieties of plants, shrubs and trees for this jewel in the borough’s crown.
Through Heritage Lottery funding, the arboretum’s restoration programme forms a central part of Walsall’s sustainable community strategy, which aims to develop stronger communities, encourage a sense of pride in the area and promote a better quality of life for local residents.
The scheme was awarded a BALI 2013 award in the restoration and regeneration category.
St Antony’s College Oxford – Blakedown Landscapes
Boningale Nurseries supplied the planting for a complex installation scheme at St Antony’s College Oxford. Led by Blakedown Landscapes (Operations), the scheme had limited access and existing historic trees had to be protected throughout the build process.
Centring on a water feature, the planting scheme was structured inside a series of rectangular/square beds created with Buxus Sempervirens and included varieties of flowering evergreens.
This BALI-award winning feature won the hard landscaping construction (under £300,000) category and exemplified what could be achieved in difficult and tight locations in just a few weeks.
The BALI National Landscape Awards, in association with industry publication Horticulture Week are run annually. They recognise the achievements of BALI Registered landscape designers and contractors who have demonstrated exceptionally high standards of professionalism and skill across a range of landscape design, contracting and grounds maintenance disciplines.
